Returning Your My Number Card
Update date: November 1, 2024
Foreign nationals who return to their home countries without plans to come back to Japan must return their My Number card at the resident registration section window at their municipal/ward office when submitting a moving-out notification. If there’s a chance of returning to Japan in the future, the My Number card will indicate “return” and will be returned to you. It’s wise to keep it handy for when you register as a resident again in Japan. (Note: Your My Number won’t be replaced with a new one, so please keep it safe.)
