Employment with a Dependent (Spouse) Visa

If you have obtained visa status in Japan because your spouse has a work (or other classification) visa, you by default are on a dependent visa and your residence card will indicate that you do not have permission to work in Japan. However, obtaining permission for activities outside of the scope of your visa from the Immigration Bureau allows you to engage in part-time jobs for a maximum of 28 hours per week.
