Checklists

When you leave Sapporo, please complete the following procedures.

  • Complete all procedures at your department.
  • Contact your landlord/management company/dorm manager and complete the necessary procedures to vacate your apartment/dormitory at least one month prior to your departure date.
  • Clean your room thoroughly and clear out your belongings. When you dispose of furniture or other belongings, abide by the Japanese rules for garbage disposal (Refer to the “Waste Disposal“).
  • Cancel all contracts for water, electricity, and gas; and be sure to pay any remaining fees.
  • Submit a “Notification of Moving Out” to your local post office.
  • Return any library books you borrowed.
  • Close your bank account.
  • Cancel your internet service.
  • Cancel your national health insurance and pay any unsettled premiums.
  • Cancel your fire insurance (and any other insurance if necessary).
  • Submit a “Notification of Moving Out” at the municipal/ward office.
  • Cancel your mobile phone contract and pay any remaining fees.
  • Have your accommodation inspected by your landlord and pay all remaining rent.
  • Submit the “Notification of the Accepting Organization” to the Immigration Bureau.
  • Hand in your residence card at the airport.
