Notification of Change of Residence
Update date: November 1, 2024
Foreign nationals who do not plan to live in Japan again should bring their residence card (or Special Permanent Regident Certificate), passport, and other identification documents when returning to their home country to their local municipal office to complete the moving-out procedures. The timing for completing the moving-out procedures varies slightly depending on the place of residence, but it can usually be done starting approximately two weeks before the date of departure. Failure to complete the moving-out procedures before returning home may result in continued billing for resident taxes, pension contributions, and national health insurance premiums even after returning home, and may also prevent the receipt of lump-sum withdrawal payments for pensions. Therefore, be sure to complete the necessary procedures before returning home. Once you have completed the moving-out procwdures, please also return your My Number card.
