In the event a national holiday falls on a Sunday, the following day is declared a national holiday.

  • Saturdays, Sundays, and National Holidays
    Public offices, banks, and many companies are generally not in operation.
    Department stores and shops are generally open.
  • Obon – Mid-August (August 13-15)
    Many companies and stores are closed.
  • New Year (December 31 & January 1-3)
    Public offices, banks, and companies are generally closed.
    Some department stores and shops remain open except for on January 1.
