Arrival Checklist

After arriving in Japan, please be sure to complete the following:

• Register for a university dormitory or find an apartment.
• Submit a “notification of moving in” to the municipal/ward office.
• Obtain National Health Insurance at the municipal/ward office.
• Enroll in National Pension System at the municipal/ward office.
• Open a bank account.
• Complete all necessary procedures in your department.
• Study up on the basic rules for living in Sapporo/Hakodate (e.g., Garbage Disposal)
•  Check the location and operating hours of your local hospitals and clinics.
